How to Uncover Your Marketing Mojo Made Easy

Five Steps to Finding Your Marketing MojoI’ve been talking a lot about finding your marketing mojo lately. When your marketing mojo is activated, it becomes easy to promote your business, service, cause or passion without feeling out of place or pushy.

I’m going to cover how to uncover yours in 5 simple steps, but first I thought I would show you some examples of where I think it has been used beautifully, quite often the subject doesn’t even know they’re doing it, it comes so naturally.

Lets consider the jeweller, the personal trainer, the massage therapist, the photographer and the accountant.

In these 5 examples you’ll get a glimpse of what it means when you operate out of your mojo (your inner magic and influence) which comes easily, then I’ll share a worksheet you can download and go through the process of finding yours.

The Jeweller

Meet Eckart Shillings. Eckart is an silversmith, jeweller and artist who is incredibly talented with a collaborative spirit. His Facebook page is filled with images of him at work in his studio, as well as his art and jewellery pieces. Eckart also collaborates with other artists and jewellers so that together they can feature their wonderful creations at The Suncoast Jewellery Expo on The Sunshine Coast in October.

 The Photographer

It seems obvious to share your photos, but Karen Cougan of Above See Level Photography uses her ability to capture the individual essence of an individual, and shares her gift through beautifully organic collaborations with local women’s networks, as well as creating other images that share her vitality and zest for life. (That’s Karen doing the finger painting by the way).

The Personal Trainer

Not all personal trainers are the same. Melinda Bingley of MAB Personal Training uses her unique blend of passions and talents, and resonates happiness and love (as well as hard core fitness, hey Mel) through her love of people, outdoor adventres, and genuine care for humanity.  Mel captures her adventures, her escapades with the bevy of beautiful women she inspires, a keen instragram user, as well as pole dancer, and charity ambassader! Her signature move is a star jump, often featured in her images – always inspiring others to live with joy. (That’s Steve Willis aka The Commando she is impressing in the photo on the right by the way!! (Maybe he can’t do star jumps).

The Massage Therapist

You may be thinking it’s all about images. It’s not. It’s about allowing others to SEE YOU. To see you doing what lights you up, so they can see and experience a little of who you, what you do, why you do it, and what you believe. In the words of Simon Sinek who has inspired leaders across the globe.

Kimberlee’s simple 5 minute video  of her ‘at work’ is nearing 1 million views, and has captured the imagination of therapists and Lomi Lomi lovers worldwide. Kimberlee offers massage training in Australia and Overseas. This video was posted in 2010 and has taken her overseas for the last 4 years since. Not a bad way to earn a living!

The Accountant

I appreciate that most of these examples are somewhat warm and fuzzy and feelgood. What about businesses that are more ‘serious’. I think Amanda Hoffman of My Office Books is an excellent example. Amanda is a wonderful communicator and uses a combination of information and images to spread her message. She speaks, Blogs, and uses multiple social media platforms including Pinterest, Linked In and Facebook that are informative and entertaining, as is she! Apparently she even “makes bookkeeping fun”! That’s the kind of bookkeeper I want to have….LOL

Finding YOUR Marketing Mojo

There are 5 key steps to discovering your marketing mojo. Once you do, you can begin to use it to connect with your ideal clients.

My super power is...1. Identify your Super Power

The thing about super powers is that they can seem insignificant to us, but can change the life of another. Let’s face it, Superman wasn’t that impressive on his own planet, but he sure was on earth! The same thing applies here. Acknowledge your Super Power and let it be seen, and incorporate it into your marketing, it’s your point of difference. (If you’re not sure, ask your friends what they think it is).

2. Let people have an insight into what makes you happiest, business and marketing doesn’t have to be so serious!

What do you love? Being with friends and family? A walk on the beach? Music? Yoga? Outdoor Fitness? Mediation? Gardening? Travel? Let people see this side of you. It helps them to resonate with you at a deeper level.

3. Let your personality shine through

You don’t need to be a cookie cutter version of someone else. Be yourself! What are your unique personality traits, or the personality traits of your business? Helpful? Vibrant? Calming? Let them show. It brings light and shade and your marketing really comes to life.

4. Tap into your own communication gifts and talents

It’s easy to feel like you need to do EVERY type of marketing out there. This is not true. You are better to do a few well, than many poorly.

The key is to use your natural gifts and talents. If you are a writer, write. If you are a speaker, speak. If you are an artist, create.

5. Use marketing tactics that come more naturally to you

Writer?

If you’re a writer – write. Books, blogs, posts, tweets, articles, newsletters, emails.

Repurpose your content.

What I mean by that is that you can take one body of content and use it in different ways. If you are an author, and have a book written, you can take a chapter, or portions thereof and share it across different platforms.

You don’t need to reinvent the wheel!

Speaker?

If you are able to articulate well through speech, then mediums that suit this gift are perfect.

Yes, you can speak to groups (I’d encourage that), but you can also record via audio and video such as podcasts and You Tube. Try tools like Soundcloud (you can set it up in 5 minutes)

Incorporate these into your blogs (they don’t have to only be written), and social media.

Visual Artist?

Perhaps you are creative, or love photography. Visual marketing is hot right now, so maximise your gifts to their full potential.

If you take your own images, you can overlay them with inspirational quotes (yours or someone elses), easily. My favourite tool is www.canva.com  for creating my own images. You can share these through almost any medium. Don’t forget fab social media platforms such as Pinterest and Instagram (phone app).

Administrator?

If you are a born administrator or organiser, you may find that creating documents such as powerpoints are more your thing. Don’t let them sit on your PC or Mac, allow them to be seen. Slideshare is a perfect online tool for sharing your presentations.

As a gifted organiser, creating collaborative events can also highlight your talents. It’s a win/win situation!

People Person?

Finding a way to network that feels good for you is important, but if you’re a people person, then it’s the perfect tactic for you! You can network online, offline, and create your own. Why not create your own Meet Up for your particular niche in your chosen area?

Mix and Match Your Gifts and Talents

You are probably thinking that you have a blend of these. That’s perfect!!

You can post your videos, presentations and audios on your blog.

Did I say blogging? YES I DID! Blogs don’t only have to be about writing.

For example. I took my powerpoint slides from last weeks presentation, and used them as images in this blog post. It’s about working smarter, not harder.

If you’re not blogging (web logging), then your business is missing out. Blogs enable you to connect with your audience readily, are easy to implement, position your expertise, and are easy to share. You can use your relevant keywords, and add new content on a regular basis. The search engines love this, and so do your tribe.

Make Sure It’s Working For You

Whatever you decide, make sure that you lead a path to  your door where customers can engage your services. That means your products pages, shopping cart or subscriber optin. If there is a connection, they will be wanting more of you!

So, what say you? Can you identify your super power, your unique blend of personality traits, gifts and talents, and share them with the world!

If you have found a way to promote your business that transcends traditional marketing, we would love it if you could share your insights with us below.
