BLOG ON TOUR! Destination unknown…

Have you tried blogging yet? It’s a great way to share what you do, the way you do it, and most importantly the why you do what you do with a wider audience. Blogging is one of the easiest ways to connect with your audience.

Welcome to My Writing Process Blog Tour

lighthouseThis week I am carrying the torch for the Karmen Lizzul Blog Tour and spreading the word for other bloggers and their businesses. This is just one way that your message can be taking to a wider audience, through leveraging the networks of others.

I’ve been invited by upcoming blogger and biz mum dynamo Denna Szwajkowski. Denna is one of the best connectors I know. She is the co-conspirator for the global meetup collective Founding Mums, radio host for Denna on the Go, inspiring mumpreneurs everywhere; mum to 3 little ‘pumpkins’ and has multiple businesses. Her motto is – Make a Difference – Collaborate – Grow.

Through her invitation I hope to impart an insight into what I do, why I blog and how my own writing process works, in the hope it may inspire you to in some small way to take massive action and get your blog on too!

Denna has invited me to answer these 4 questions: Continue reading “BLOG ON TOUR! Destination unknown…”

Back to Basics Series – What’s a blog and are you doing it?

Blog what is itSo what is a blog exactly?

A blog is a series of updates or a web log, with the most recent one appearing to the top. These blogs can also be sorted into like categories, so that your readers can find more on the topics that they are interested in. .

Why is blogging important for your business?

Blogging demonstrates your knowledge and expertise and builds trust. If you understand your field of expertise, and others are seeking that knowledge, sharing it publicly via a blog, allows it to be visible, and accessible. Blogging confidently on the subjects that your clients and potential customers want to know about can put you ahead of your competition.

Not only that…

Blogging helps to build traffic to your website where you can direct it to your chosen destination.  Continue reading “Back to Basics Series – What’s a blog and are you doing it?”

What feminine protection can teach you (gents too) about sales funnels

Meltwater-Customer-Purchase-Funnel-high-rezLast week I had a enlightening discussion with my 8 year old daughter about feminine protection, which got me thinking about the marketing process, and the steps that exist within it. Lily is nowhere near puberty yet, but she’s certainly thinking about it, as a result of plenty of exposure to sanitary protection ads.

Our conversation went like this:

Lily: Should I wear pads or tampons

Me: Which ever you prefer

Lily: Pads……which is more comfortable?

Me: Tampons

Lily: Oh…

(My 14 year son looked on in horror)…sorry gents.

I shared this conversation on Facebook, which got lots of comments, and alternatives such as eco-pads and menstrual cups that my 8 year old could consider!

So, how is this relevant to you and your business? Continue reading “What feminine protection can teach you (gents too) about sales funnels”

My love affair with newspapers and the writing bug

I have always had a love affair with newspapers.

It began in the early 80’s when I worked at The Sydney Morning Herald as a Telephone Sales Rep selling advertising to businesses. Every morning the thud of that broadsheet newspaper would hit my desk, and I’d devour it from cover to cover. I even became adept at reading it on the train without losing the lot on the floor, or whacking the person next to me in the head!

When I think about it, it probably goes back even earlier than that. Mum and dad would send my brother and I on a 20 minute walk to the local newsagent every Sunday morning. We’d pick up a copy of The Sun-Herald and Sunday Telegraph, and twenty cents worth of mixed lollies each (You got two for 1c in those days), then make our way back with our bounty. They were happy times.

The transition from advertising to editorial

Over the years my passion for press grew. I worked across the Fairfax newspaper empire in various advertising roles, but I wanted to try my hand at writing instead. I really liked the thought of investigating an issue and creating a story around it.

I enrolled in a Freelance Journalism course, (Simon Townsend from Simon Townsend’s Wonderworld was my tutor, remember him?) But alas, I never completed the course. What I did discover however, was that you didn’t have to be journalist to get material published. It turned out than many of the contributors to The Sydney Morning Herald, and other Fairfax publications including magazines were simply that. Contributors with a passion for something. Like travel. Or food. Or health.

Be a contributor! Continue reading “My love affair with newspapers and the writing bug”

How to turn one great idea into a stream of awesome blog content!

Blog ideas made easyAs a fellow passionate business owner, I know you have MORE than one idea!

But what do you do with it? How can you use your ideas, and share them in different ways to spread far and wide to those you serve, without spreading yourself thin in the process?

Master the art of repurposing your article and blog content.

Step 1: Start with an idea

I usually find an idea presents itself, and I will be inspired to write about it, like this one.

You may find that you prefer to jot down ideas as they come to you, so that you can return to your list for inspiration at a later date, or even create an editorial calander for the year.

 Your idea will:

  • Address a need or desire of your target market or niche
  • Be written in a way that connects with your audience (tone, language etc)
  • Be relevant, meaningful and timely

Typically a blog article will be:  Continue reading “How to turn one great idea into a stream of awesome blog content!”
